Niswi Nishiimeyag (Three Sisters)
11 x 14" Print, 2020, acrylic
The Three Sister's represents an Indigenous agricultural practice where the corn, beans, and squash all help each other grow and lean on one another for support. In the acrylic painting the bean is Dene, the squash is Tori, and the corn is myself. These Indigenous women depicted were my best friends and sisters, who had been in my community supporting me in my first years of university. We all chose to move away from our hometowns to Vancouver, BC, and all followed our educational dreams and pursuits.
